DEPARTMENT OF ORTHODONTICS AND DENTOFACIAL ORTHOPAEDICS

Overview

The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics is one of the premier Departments of our Institution. The focus of our Department is Excellence in Education and to give excellent and affordable treatment to our patients.
Our Department is well-equipped with good infra-structure and caters to Under-graduate, Post-graduate and PhD programs. The Department is a recognized research Centre by The Kerala University of Health Sciences with many on-going research projects as well as numerous publications.
Our clinical training includes Growth Modification treatment for correction of skeletal problems in growing children, Corrective Orthodontics and Surgical Orthodontics. Our Post-Graduate students are trained in both Basics as well as the latest clinical techniques by giving access to all Appliance Systems and Use of TADs (mini-implants) for correction of malocclusion as well as use of Ceramic and Lingual Brackets and Aligners. Skeletal malocclusion in adults is corrected by combined surgical-orthodontic treatment.
The Faculty as well as Post-graduate Students are encouraged to attend Conferences/Workshops as part of continuous learning and updation of knowledge. The Department has also organized numerous Workshops as well as online training programs.

Under-graduate teaching program:

●Undergraduates are trained according to the curriculum put forth by the Kerala University of Health Sciences and Dental Council of India.
● Preclinical training is given to students on study models in the Second Year, followed by training in the clinical management of patients in Third Year and Final Year BDS.
● The students are trained to acquire clinical skills in diagnosis,treatment planning and management of patients

Post-graduate training program:

● The Department offers three years post-graduate training according to the curriculum of The Kerala University of Health Sciences and Dental Council of India.
● Post-graduate course includes weekly seminars and journal clubs, case discussions, inter-disciplinary meetings, Lectures for under-graduate students, Symposium,
clinical clubs and research activities.
● To encourage students to develop an attitude to practise innovative treatment protocols.
● Participation and Presentation of their clinical work and research in State, National and International Conferences.

●Separate under-graduate and post-graduate clinic

● Sterilization room
● Separate laboratory for under-graduate and post-graduate clinic
● Computer unit with Nemoceph software for Cephalometric analysis
● Seminar room with LCD projector and wifi connection

● Treatment with removable appliances
● Growth modification – with Orthopedic and Myofunctional appliances
● Fixed orthodontic treatment with Stainless-steel and Ceramic brackets
● Self-ligating brackets
● Lingual Orthodontics
● Aligners
● Combined surgical—orthodontic treatment to correct skeletal deformities
● Use Bone screws and Titanium mini implants
● Surgical eruption of impacted teeth
● Adult Orthodontics with interdisciplinary management
