TOBACCO CESSATION CELL AT MES DENTAL COLLEGE

The Tobacco Cessation Cell at MES Dental College is a dedicated initiative aimed at combating the harmful effects of tobacco use through education, counselling, and clinical interventions. Recognizing the vital role of oral health professionals in tobacco control, the cell works actively to empower students, faculty, and the community with the skills needed to help individuals quit tobacco.

OBJECTIVES OF THE TOBACCO CESSATION CELL
1. Awareness and education :

Conducting educational programs on the harmful effects of tobacco.
Organizing workshops and seminars to train students and faculty in tobacco cessation counselling. 
Observing global tobacco control events like World No Tobacco Day to spread awareness.

2. Patient counselling and support :

Providing personalized tobacco cessation counselling for patients visiting the dental college.
Utilizing motivational interviewing techniques to encourage behaviour change.

3. Screening and early detection:

Identifying tobacco-related oral lesions and referring cases for further management
Conducting routine screening for tobacco users

4. Community outreach programs :

Organizing tobacco cessation camps in schools, colleges, and public spaces.
Collaborating with government and non-governmental organizations for anti-tobacco campaigns.
Running awareness drives to educate the public on the risks of smoking and smokeless tobacco use.

5. Research and policy advocacy :

The institution engages students and faculty in evidence-based studies to support public health interventions and improve clinical practices. Actively conducts research on the health impacts of tobacco use, particularly focusing on oral health and effective cessation strategies.
