Oral Medicine Diagnosis and Radiology provide an essential link between dentistry and medicine which is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of oral mucosal diseases, Oral manifestation of systemic problems and those phases of dental practice that are essentially concerned with diagnosis and dental management of medically compromised patients. Oral and maxillofacial radiology is the specialty of dentistry and discipline of radiology concerned with the production and interpretation of images and data that are used for the diagnosis and management of diseases, disorders and conditions of oral and maxillofacial disorders.
The department of oral medicine Diagnosis and Radiology is situated in the ground floor of the dental college near the main entrance with a clinical section and a radiology section , The Department receives all patients, examines them, diagnose the disease with scientific methods and laboratory investigations. Medicines are prescribed as required and patients are referred to various specialties for treatment.
Oral Medicine is involved in patient care, teaching and research involving diagnosis and nonsurgical management of diseases of the orofacial complex and systemic and behavioral disorders that impact oral health, including
- Orofacial pain, including temporomandibular disorders (TMD)
- Mucosal diseases
- Oral cancer and complications of cancer therapy
- Dental care for patients with disabilities
- Neurosensory and motor disorders
- Salivary dysfunction
- Oral complications of systemic illnesses
- Craniofacial imaging and other diagnostics
- Intra Oral Radiography
- Extra oral radiography including Cephalograms , OPG
